TIPS

WEATHER

SMA is warm during the day and gets quite chilly in the evening, please plan to bring an extra layer for when the sun goes down.

SHOES

The cobblestone streets of SMA are beautiful however they are not stiletto friendly. Plan to bring walking-friendly shoe choices for the weekend.

KIDS

Please be mindful that the wedding is an adults only celebration.

If you are planning to bring your children with you there are many local childcare options available. Please reach out to your accommodations or us to coordinate.

TRANSPORTATION

The best way to get around SMA is on foot, via Uber or via local taxi. We strongly advise against renting a car and driving. The best way to schedule airport transportation is through your accommodations.

Plan to book your airport transfer through your accommodations. Drivers from SMA to Mexico City are typically about $350 usd for a SUV. We do not recommend renting a car.

LOCAL TRANSPORT

Walking. Uber and Green Taxi

We recommend walking the beautiful cobblestone street while you are in San Miguel as it is the easiest way to get around.

There are also green taxis available at every corner. If you know you'd like to take a taxi, you can request one from the front desk of your hotel or with the host of the restaurant you are at. Taxis across San Miguel are at most $100 MXN ($6 USD) - just make sure you have pesos on you. Ubers are also available however taxis are more accessible.

Personal Drivers

If you anticipate needing a driver throughout the weekend, our preferred driver is Juan Jose.

Please contact Juan Jose via Whatsapp (please request contact information from us).

Rental Car

We strongly advise against renting a car. From our experience, the rules of the road and access to parking are not optimal for US based drivers. There are plenty of taxis and personal drivers to transport you from point A to B with safety and ease.

Airport transfer

Getting to and from the airport.

Our recommended hotels are all able to schedule your airport transfers. Please reach out to them directly to book a driver.

If you are not staying at one of our suggested hotels, you can book airport transportation through Transportarte Mexico.

ACCOMODATIONS

San Miguel is filled with boutique style accommodation options.

When staying in the city center all hotels are walkable from one another. Most hotels are on the smaller side and most homestays are 2-8 bedrooms. We recommend coordinating with those in your greater party to discuss your ideal stay.

Keep in mind that you will want to book within the city limits of Zona Centro. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions regarding specific Airbnbs or locations Below are a few of our favorite hotels.

SITES TO SEE

Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel

San Miguel's most famous sight is its parish church, characterized by its pink towers that soar above the town. These pinnacles were designed by indigenous stonemason Zeferino Gutiérrez in the late 19th century. He reputedly based the design on a postcard of a Belgian church and instructed builders by scratching plans in the sand. The foundation of the church dates from the late 17th century.

El Jardin

In front of the church complex is the Plaza Allende, popularly known as Jardin Principal, but most often referred to simply as el jardin. Take a rest on one of the wrought iron benches and enjoy the Baroque style garden filled with Indian laurel trees.
